Karagöz Sanatevi, a former carpentry shop, was restored in 2005 to create a cultural space in Ayvalık. Karagöz Art House, which has been organizing concerts in Turkey and abroad with music ensembles for many years, has also organized different cultural events in its own space until today.
Karagöz Art House can be rented for a short period of time as an exhibition hall, work, meeting, workshop, rehearsal and artist residence open to the thinking and creating people of the art and culture world in the fields of painting, photography, music, literature, creative writing, drama, sculpture, cinema, video, theater, dance, circus, handicrafts, architecture, philosophy, and similar fields.
Designed by architect Çağlayan Efendioğlu and restored using traditional stone, iron and woodwork under the supervision of architect Nilden Çiğner, the venue started its activities in 2005 as the first cultural institution of Ayvalık.
It has a total usage area of 84 m2, 42 m2 on the ground floor and 42 m2 on the upper floor. The height of the area with bar and sink on the ground floor is 5 meters. The upper floor has an open ceiling.
Karagöz is located in the center of Ayvalık, on Cumhuriyet Street, one of the busiest places in the historical district.
