Karagöz Art House
Founded in 1996 in Paris, Caféturc aimed to promote Turkish music abroad and World Music in Turkey. In 2005, Karagöz Art House was opened in Ayvalık in connection with Caféturc's activities.
In this process, Caféturc moved to Ayvalık to carry out the music activities of Karagöz Art House.
Caféturc worked with valuable traditional music ensembles of Turkey. It created new ensembles and promoted them internationally.
İt performed a significant number of concerts at festivals and cultural centers of many countries around the world. He contributed to the recognition of Turkish music in the world.
In Turkey, Caféturc presented music ensembles from abroad to institutions such as İş Sanat and Yapı Kredi Festival.
Today, Karagöz Art House's cultural activities are carried out in two areas.
Under the name of Caféturc Musics & Arts, professional work is carried out with a new structure whose areas of interest are music, theater, contemporary dance and festival organizations.
Karagöz Art House is developing its database to establish a network of traditional music artists in Turkey. Karagöz prepares creative projects with the extraordinary musicians it discovers in this research.
In addition, Karagöz Sanatevi's historic building is rented out on a short-term basis to painting, photography, sculpture, cinema, video artists, theater and music ensembles as exhibition halls, workspaces, rehearsal spaces or artist residencies.
Since 2016, Karagöz has also been carrying out an annual cultural project called "Nimri Kullukları Art Project" in Nimri Village, Keban District of Elazığ.
